Delirious? - “All God’s Children”

(from Kingdom of Comfort)

We are the most educated Christians in history, and yet our lyrics are considerably stupider than our much less educated Christian forebears–the people who sang lyrics by Fanny Crosby or Charles Wesley or Isaac Watts. And please note that I didn’t say our lyrics are “simpler.” Simple can be good. Simple can be beautiful. I’m not arguing with simple. But what Brother Tomlin seems happy to keep sending our way–and what the rest of us are happily receiving–isn’t simple, it’s just bad. Shame on him, shame on the worship leaders who aren’t finding anything else to set before us, and shame on us for not objecting.

Listen for the hymns…

Jeremy Camp - “There Will Be A Day”

I typically stay far, far away from Jeremy Camp, but for some reason I really like this song.

“Lord of Lords” - Hillsong

Beholding your beauty is all I long for
To worship You Jesus with my soul’s desire
For this very heart you’ve shaped for your pleasure
The purpose to lift your name high

Hear and surrender in pure adoration
I enter your courts with an offering of praise
I am Your servant come to bring you glory
As is fit for the work of your hands

Now unto the lamb who sits on the throne
Be glory and honor and praise
All of creation resounds with the song
Worship and praise him the Lord of Lords

The spirit now living and dwelling within me
Keep my eyes fixed ever upon Jesus’ face
Let not the things of this world ever sway me
I’ll run ‘till I finish the race

Singing unto the lamb who sits on the throne
Be glory and honor and praise
All of creation resounds with the song
Worship and praise the Lord

Now unto the lamb who sits on the throne
Be glory and honor and praise
All of eternity echoes the song
Worship and praise him the Lord of Lords

Holy Lord
You are Holy

Jesus Christ is the Lord

Now unto the lamb who sits on the throne
Be glory and honor and praise
Call all the saints to join in the song
Worship and praise him the Lord of Lords

Lord of Lords
Lord of Lords
Lord of Lords

Many Christians feel worthless because I’m convinced they don’t understand humility. Humility is not “being made humble before the Lord” until you have lost all self-respect. Losing self-respect leads, not to mature but to masochistic sainthood (if there is such a thing). I wonder — do we mistake a martyr-like, sacrificial masochistic attitude toward the Lord as enlightened? True humility is none of these.

Humility in the Bible means taking a true evaluation of yourself - of your virtues too. If you’re good at something, then take credit for it, recognize it. Don’t say, “Really now, it was nothing.” It was something. It was God’s grace showing in your life. It was the light of the world coming through. There’s just as much pride showing on your part by not taking the credit when you should as when you shouldn’t but do. How good are you at receiving a compliment? Pride can wear a many-colored garment. It has a large wardrobe.

This is the beauty, though, and the power of justification: to be justified before God means we can now stand before our Creator without an inferiority complex, delivered from false humility. The cross did a wonderful thing when it killed pride dressed up in all its manifestations. We’re free, church. We don’t have to wring our hands. Sweat it out anymore. That’s true freedom. And that’s true humility.

The Michael Gungor Band - “Never Stop”

New song on the worship set this weekend. It’s fun to sing.

Delirious? - “Did You Feel The Mountains Tremble” (Live and In the Can Album)

[I prefer the one from their Cutting Edge album but it was over 10mb]

Classic Delirious. This is before they turned global.

One of my top favorites from them.

Phil Wickham - “True Love” (live acoustic)

The crowd energy on Wickham’s live release “Singalong” is what makes it excellent. I particularly love the build-up near the end where, after singing that true love had died, “that’s not the end”—and Jesus is alive!
